THE CHANGING YEARS

by Ken Romriell illustration by 'Mad' Jack Hanks

The years had gone by,
Their children were raised,
They still had the ranch
Where their cattle were grazed.

They saddled one morning
To go check the stock-
Still pretty early
About six o'clock.

As she straddled her pony
In that early dawn,
She remembered that Hubby
Used to help her get on

When they were first married
Those long years ago.
He seemed less attentive
Now that they had grown slow.

"You aren't near as gallant
As when I was a gal."
This needling sentence
She said to her pal."

"I guess you are right,"
He replied, being coy,
"And you aren't as bouyant
As when I was a boy."
